The very popular Dine & Dance monthly dances at The Spa, Scarborough, are running once again, so this is the perfect place to practise your dances! The Dine & Dance events have a short break in the summer and resume from September, so it is the ideal time to learn a few of the most popular dances that have stood the test of time!
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT SEQUENCE DANCING
I began teaching sequence dances at the request of some of my regular dancers - I usually have a separate class for sequence dance tuition, so please get in touch if you might be interested in learning a few sequence dances, you are most welcome to join us.
Sequence dancing is a very sociable activity, and is very popular in the Scarborough area, there are several weekly dances held locally that you could join once you got started. In sequence dancing, everyone dances around the room with their own partner, doing the same sequence of steps in a short routine at the same time, and the routine is then repeated, usually after 16 bars of music. This makes it much easier to learn as you are doing the same steps as the dancers in front! Dancers are a friendly bunch and are always very welcoming to newcomers!
Learning a few sequence dances in a small class is perfect for those who have seen sequence dancing but have been hesitant to get up and join in, or those who would like to add more dances to their repertoire. Many people also find that on holiday they are unable to join in the dances held in hotels, or on cruise ships, on an evening and would like to learn a few sequence dances in advance. There are many 'old favourites' that pop up in many different venues, and I also teach some of the more recent competition winning dances that seem to be popular locally.
People who have danced a little already usually have no problems in picking up the routines, but it is also a nice introduction to Ballroom & Latin American dancing if you have not danced at all before. Repetition is the key!
